Gold Coast Acts to Protect $5.5bn Pipeline After Height Decision

The Gold Coast City Council has moved to address a Queensland court’s rejection of its height uplift provisions that threatens to cruel $5.5 billion of development while it waits to hear if the High Court will entertain its appeal.

Developers in Australia’s holiday highrise capital were pitched a curve ball last month when the Queensland Court of Appeal overturned the city’s approval of an uplift in building height for a planned beachfront tower at Bilinga.

The proposal, by Cielo Property Group, for a luxury 34m tower was 10m more than than Bilinga’s height limit. The project, which would have replaced two beach houses, would also have been more than double the permitted density.
